Hi All!
How many of you have read the book "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson? it's a wonderful book! For those who haven't, it's about a freshman girl named Melinda Sordino. She goes through a terrible experience, and the book is about how she copes with it, and with her first high school year which is not going so well.
I jsut had the wonderful privlidge to meet the author, who was witty and very very nice and cool! She actually made it a point to let each student talk to her individually, sign autographs, ask questions, etc.
For more info, visit her web site at www.writerlady.com I think that's it.
Enjoy!
Caitlin

Hello, Caitlin, if you're reading this. I've met the author myself. a very nice and down-to-earth woman Anyway, I think she mentioned your name to me, but I can't remember exactly what it was about. It had something to do with message boards on her site, or something like that. She came to my school to talk about Speak, and how she could relate to her main character, a little bit. It's been over a year since that day, so I'm not too sure about our conversation that day. I read the book as part of a bookclub and enjoyed it.

I had to read the book in 12th grade. I've try to find it but I can't. I think the book treaches you to stand up to a person even when you don't feekl like you can do it.

I've read the book. i had to read it my sophomore year. Honestly, that was the only book that I was interested in that entire year. For once, I got to read a book in school that was about an issue affecting people my age today in time, and not some classic book by an author probably unknown to most of us and dealing with something most of the class could care less about.

Yeah, I actually think that's interesting. Um, yeah, I am a freshman in high school myself. Lol! The nerdy oddball. I am all in to books, while everyone is in to who knows what. Lmao!

I actually like the classic authors. My favorite is Dickens, and I think he's brilliant. Yeah, social issues with classing and racism is what I am big on. I know lots of them. Not a pleasant crowd to be around in general.

I've never read that book, but it sounds like a really good book. I recently read a book similar to it called The Perks of being a Wallflower. It's about this boy Charlie who is a freshman in High School. He's also an oddball, and it's letters that he writes to "friend" about coping with highschool and his life. You should read it lol
